    • Jimmy Ross Byrd passed away Friday, April 23, 2021 in Lubbock, surrounded by his family. He was bornon May 3, 1934, in Kent County, Texas to Charlie and Lizzie Byrd.

      He grew up in Clairemont, Texas with his mother and brother Bob. His father died when he was six. He attended school in Clairemont and Jayton. As a teenager, Jimmy started cowboying at the Davis Ranch in Kent County.

      Jimmy met Jeanie Peel in Post, Texas. They married on August 26, 1955. They had four children. Their first son died soon after birth. They then had 2 daughters and another son. Jeanie passed away on January 18, 2009. Jimmy was baptized at the Jayton Church of Christ.

      During the early years of their marriage he worked for Ernest Lloyd Company, under his brother-in-law, Dueal Ellis, building highways. He then returned to his first love, being a cowboy. He worked for the Wallace Ranch in Scurry County; Lowe's Ranch in Kent County; the Double U in Garza County; the O-O and Mesquite Grove in Kent County for the majority of his life. He then worked for Zack Burkett, a rock plant in Jacksboro, Texas driving a truck while his wife Jeanie worked for the office. Finally he worked for Garza County up into his 80's.

      In his younger days he enjoyed roping and cutting horses. He enjoyed traveling and went on many trips throughout his life with Jeanie, many relatives and Wanda Dooley.

      Jimmy was preceded in death by an infant son, wife Jeanie, his parents, three brothers; Bill, Elwood and Bob and two sisters; Jewel Puryear and Toad Ellis.

      He is survived by two daughters and one son, all of Lubbock.
