- Edith Pewitt Nelson
McGregor-Edith Pewitt Nelson, a retired McGregor bookkeeper, died Friday in McGregor. She was 86. Services will be 2:30 pm Monday at Cole Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Carrol Hambrick, the Rev. A C Van Cleave and the Rev Joe Loughlin officiating. McGregor Chapter 427 Order of the Eastern Star will present a memorial tribute during the service. Burial will be at McGregor Cemetery.
Mrs. Nelson was born Jan. 28, 1905, in Waco, where she graduated from Waco High and later attended Baylor University. She married Festus D. nelson on Jan 15, 1931, in Waco; he died Feb 12, 1986. Mrs. Nelson taught in the LaVega Independent Schol District before her marriage. She and her husband owned and operated Nelson Grocery Store in Moody. They later moved to McGregor, where they owned and operaed Nelson Fedd & Hatchery for 42 years. Mrs. Nelson was the bookkeeper at the hatchery. She retired in 1985. She also was a member of McGregor Chapter 427 Order of the Eastern Star and First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Mildred Pewitt Grissom of Waco.
