Patience Dayhoff born in Oella, Baltimore County, MD. She was the daughter of Andrew Hanson Dayhoff and Sarah Matilda Gordon. She was the oldest of nine children. Patience did not have an easy life. She had to quit school after the sixth grade to help her mother with chores and the younger children. While in school, her mother would also keep her home on Mondays to help with the laundry. She worked at Dickey's Mill in Oella for over 40 years. One of her jobs there was running one of the large looms.
Patience was married three times: First to Richard Bell Godfrey, Jr., second to Albert Benjamin Church, and third to Ralph Kenneth Easton. She had two children. First was Calvin Thomas Godfrey, whose father was Sterling Kennon Collier III. The second was Robert Donald Godfrey, whose father was Richard Bell Godfrey, Jr.
Patience passed away in her sleep on her 95th birthday at the home of her son Calvin Thomas Godfrey, who she lived with during her later years. She was buried on September 10, 2005.
