      Lee Roy Garlick, 76, of La Grange, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2012 at St. Mark's Medical Center in La Grange surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

      He was born May 9, 1936 in Allamore, Texas, the ninth of twelve children, to William Frederick and Julia Segura Garlick. He married Nona Morris on July 8, 1957 in Sierra Blanca, Texas.

      Lee Roy was born into a ranching family and worked from an early age on the sheep and cattle ranches of West Texas. He loved to raise and trade livestock, and cherished the friendships he developed through the years. Lee Roy was very active in supporting the FFA and 4-H programs through stock shows, and spent countless hours working with the kids on their projects.

      Lee Roy attended Van Horn public schools and El Paso Community College. He served as a heavy weapons infantryman and paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division, U.S. Army from 1955-1959. He continued his public service in 1979, serving as County Commissioner of Culberson County, Texas.

      Lee Roy worked in various fields throughout the years including ranching, farming, freight, and was a small business owner of a service station. However, his most treasured occupation was as a classroom tutor for ESL students and special needs students in the Fort Stockton ISD system from 1996 ? 2004. He loved to work with kids and believed in the potential of every child he met.

      Lee Roy and Nona retired and moved to La Grange, Texas in 2008. Together, they enjoyed the new friendships and the fellowship of the La Grange community. Lee Roy and his family enjoyed this time as it allowed him to become very active in supporting local sports, FFA and 4-H, and the community.

      Lee Roy loved the Lord, and through death he gained Christ in a higher degree.

      Survivors include his wife, Nona, of 55 years; four children: Levi Garlick and wife Becky; Marti Jo Stout and husband Justin; Lance Garlick; Jason Garlick and wife Shelah; nine grandchildren: Travis and Tanner Stout, Jacob, Hallie and Hannah Garlick, Capri and Loryn Garlick, Hayley Coleman, and Baby "G"; four sisters: Ida Mae Beasley of Carbondale, CO, Evelyn Enriquez of Dallas, Martha McElroy of Houston, Cecelia Petty of Pleasanton; three brothers: Henry Garlick of Fort Stockton, Marvin Garlick of Alpine, James Garlick of Balmorhea, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
