It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Leo (Dad, Grandfather and Great Grandfather) of Sydney, Nova Scotia on November 29th at the age of 100. Leo was born one of ten children in Sydney to the late David Mombourquette and Mary (Doucet) Mombourquette and was a lifelong resident of the Pier. Never one to sit idle, you would see him walking to work, polishing his truck or tending his peacocks. After spending 40 years as an Open Hearth Charging Car Operator at the Steel Plant, his retirement years were spent first as a Courier Owner/ Operator followed by a Crossing Guard. Students would be ushered across the street safely and swiftly while Leo yodeled or sang his rendition of an old Hank Williams song and sometime dressed as a Town Crier. Leo was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Margaret (MacDonald) Mombourquette, and his former partner Blanche Chisholm, and was the last immediate member of his family. He is survived by his children; Roger (Marilyn) Mombourquette, Marie (Leo) Lewis and Francis (Linda) Mombourquette along with his grandchildren; Dana (Kirt) MacDonald, Cory (Taylor) Mombourquette and Sean Mombourqutte, great grandchildren Ameila, Theo and Avalynn along with numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his friends and caregivers at The Cove Guest Home. We would like to thank the staff at the Cove Guest home for the exceptional care and kindness they showed Dad.
