    • Mr. and Mrs. Tom Winstead Sr. of Sumter celebrated their 71th wedding anniversary on Monday, Feb. 1, 2021. They were married on Feb. 1, 1950, in San Antonio, Texas.

      The couple's three children are Tom Winstead Jr. of Elkin, North Carolina, Rick Winstead of Martinsburg, West Virginia, and the late Pam Oliver.

      The couple has five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

      Mrs. Winstead is the former Lucille Coleman of San Antonio, Texas.

    • Lucille C. Winstead, 88 years old and wife of 73 years of Tom Winstead, Sr., passed away peacefully at her home on April 19, 2023.
      The daughter of the late John R. and Maude Coleman, she was born in San Antonio, TX on Nov. 27, 1934.
      She was predeceased by brothers Kenneth Coleman and Tom Coleman and daughter Pam Oliver (Jan).
      She leaves behind sons Tom Winstead, Jr. of Elkin, North Carolina, and Rick Winstead (Deb) of Martinsburg, WV. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Stephanie McCormick (Deron); Becky Craft (Donny); Renee Oliver (Tom Voyt); Kimberly MacCumbee (Matt); Jamie Oliver (Stacey); eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews in California, Arizona and Colorado; and special neighbors Bob and Lynn Stemba and family.
      A special thank you is also extended to the caregivers at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospice, At Your Service Home Care and Ethel Cabbagestalk.
      Married at a young age she traveled the world and lived in Japan and the Philippines before moving back to Sumter with Tom's retirement from the Air Force where she worked and retired from Tuomey Hospital's business office. After retiring she remained with Tuomey as a dedicated volunteer.
      She was a member of Alice Drive Baptist Church where she was active in her Sunday School Class and nursery.
      The family will receive friends from 3:00-4:00 PM Sunday, April 23, 2023, at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, April 23, 2023, in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Clay Smith officiating. Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, April 24, 2023, at Ft. Jackson National Memorial Cemetery.
      While she has requested flowers not be sent, but in the spirit of the Yellow Rose of Texas, as she was often referred, yellow roses may be sent
