She was born April 16, 1924 in Glenwood, Howard County, Maryland, the daughter of the late William A. and Dora Johnson Warfield. She and her Soul mate enjoyed traveling from State to State working as Vendors. Later years they worked only in Baltimore City. She graduated from Lisbon High School in 1942, was known for her athletic abilities, and loved country music. She was the wife of the late Ralph E. Piccolo, her husband of 71 years who died in February 2014. Surviving are sons, Anthony Piccolo and companion Nancy Muntz of Florida, Ralph and wife Belle Piccolo of South Carolina, William and wife Yung Piccolo of Virginia, daughter Rosalie Piccolo of Nevada, 10 grandchildren. Sisters, Nannie Arnold of Mt. Airy and Ada Bohn of Sykesville, niece Patsy and Husband George Zepp of Sykesville, several other nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Billings Funeral Home Chapel in Woodward. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Michael Frank Moore was born in McCamey, Texas to Floyd Bodie and Lorean Q. (Cook) Moore on November 26, 1941. Michael attended school in McCamey and graduated from McCamey High School. He enlisted in the United States Army serving two tours of duty during the Vietnam War. Michael was married to Carolyn Langford and two children were born to this union, Joyce Marie and Elizabeth Blanche. Michael was then united in marriage to Linda Gail Newman on August 4, 1965, to this union two children were born, Michael S. and Bobbi Jo. After being Honorably Discharged, Michael and Linda eventually moved to west Texas, where Michael began his career in the oilfield. In the mid 1970's Michael and his family moved to Mooreland. Michael worked in the oilfield holding several positions from roughneck, and drilling superintendent to owning his own company. Most recently Michael was working as a pumper at the time of his death. Michael is survived by his wife Linda of Mooreland; daughters, Elizabeth Markham and husband Mark of Chester, VA; Joyce Reed of Visalia, CA; Bobbi Moore of Mooreland; one son, Michael Moore and his partner David Slaton of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Lyssa Hoffman; Austin Tice; Misty Bassham; and Corbin Reed; one sister, Bodine Johnson and husband Bob of Odessa, TX; one brother, Jim Moore and wife Dorothy of Ft. | 1167 | Monica Gareau (nee Pottie) passed away at the Dartmouth General Hospital March 20, 2022. A proud Cape Bretoner, Monica was born October 18, 1933 in West L'Ardoise to the late Michael and Elizabeth Pottie. Monica attended Halifax Vocational High School, graduating in 1952 and met the love of her life, Bernard, during that time. Life as a navy wife took Monica to many different places where she excelled at creating a home for her family wherever we went, including Belfast, Ireland. A lifelong devotee of the Catholic Church, Monica was a compassionate CWL member who took her faith to heart by visiting housebound parishioners and contributing in parish efforts to support the underprivileged and homeless. She was a long time volunteer for the Canadian Heart and Stroke foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society. Monica is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Bernard Gareau of Grand-M?re, Quebec and her six children Michael (Mary Couillard) of Guelph, Charmaine Langille (Ken) of Ottawa, Janice, Paul (Sheri Alexander), Lyse Markert (Jeff), Pierre (Amber Walker) all of Dartmouth. She was Grandma to Jennifer Duncan & Laura Gareau Sanchez; Sarah, Justin & Zachary Langille; Matthew & Veronica Highmore; Alex & Sophie Gareau; Aliza Aldana, Hannah & Rachel Markert; Madeleine & Malcolm Gareau as well seven great-grand children. She is survived by her youngest sister Helen Cogswell (Joe) of Halifax and predeceased by her other siblings: Doris Votaw, Allister Pottie, Eva Lohnes, Edwin Pottie, Maxwell Pottie. Monica also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gareau was a welcoming mother to the friends of her children and always had time for a chat and a few questions and, if they were lucky, one of her fine home baked treats. To quote a long time family friend, Jim, "Your Mom and Dad always welcomed me into their home as one of their own. | 1172 | Mrs. J. W. May Died Saturday Mrs. Cordelia May, aged about 43 years, wife of J. W. May, died at her home west of here last Saturday morning, July 12, 1913, after being ill about one week, the immediate cause of death being blood poison. She received a slight wire scratch on her left lower limb on Saturday before her death and from this scratch blood poison set up from which she suffered one week previous to her death. Mrs. May (Nee Miss Cordelia Wright) was born in Cumberland County, Kentucky, in 1870 and moved with her parents moved to Texas, settling near Moody in 1882, and resided her continuously until her death. In August 1885 she was married to J. W. May of this community and to their union five children have been born, all residing in this community, the two oldest married and the three youngest at home with their father. Deceased is also survived by her mother who resides in Tolar, Hood County, Texas, her father and all her brothers and sisters being dead. Some 22 or 23 years ago she accepted Christ as her savior and united with the Church of Christ and lived close to the teachings of the Bible according to the doctrines of her faith. She was a good woman and shared the confidence and friendship of her neighbors. The funeral was held last Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock, Rev. White of McGregor conducted the services, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Buckhorn cemetery. The surviving loved ones have the sincere sympathy of all who know them in the loss of one so near and dear to them. Second obit: MAY.--Cordella, wife of J. W. May, daughter of James Wright, departed this life on July 12, 1913, after five days of awful suffering with blood poison. All that could be done by mortals failed; she had to go. Our sister was born September 23, 1870, which made her stay on earth forty-three years. On August 26, 1885, she was married to J. W. May, with whom she lived in peace and love till her death. Five children were given them, four girls and one boy. All of them are Christians, but we weep not for her without hope. Twenty-two years ago at Whitson, Texas she was born into the family of God under the preaching of P. J. Taylor. In her death, the writer lost one of his best friends, neighborhood a good neighbor. The church sustained her loss. But what about husband and childrens' loss? Dark will be your days without a sweet voice and loving presents. | 1174 | Mrs. Phinney died Sept. 14, 2011, in Cleburne. She was born to Mr. and Mrs. O.A. Riggs on Feb. 12, 1927, in Burnett, Texas. She married Clarence E. Phinney on Dec. 7, 1946, in Burnett. She was a member of Field Street Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir and taught Sunday school for many years. Pat owned and operated a dog grooming business out of her home from 1970 to 2005. She never spoke a harsh word about others, only the positive. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed working crossword puzzles. Pat was an avid reader, especially books about history and geography. Her giving spirit and uplifting nature will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Nancy Young and Loney Hughes. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Clarence E. Phinney; children and their spouses, Rebecca S. Martin and Eldon, Wayne E. Phinney and Gwen, Douglas E. We went to Newton Butler's house (the witness stated substantially the facts testified to by John Trimble until they got to Daileyville). I was about 6 or 7 steps from the gate walking toward some men in front of the store when the first shot was fired. I had seen Garza and Coy ride up and dismount and hitch their horses, draw their guns from their scabbards and walk up to the rear of the hack. Also I saw Jack Bailey walk up to where Newton Butler was. I saw Fate Elder walking out toward the Mexicans. When he was about 15 steps from the Mexicans he pulled his pistol around from his left side to the front and with his right hand he drew the pistol from the scabbard. All the time he was walking toward the Mexicans. I saw him bring his pistol over and point it toward the Mexicans. By that time he was pretty close to them and as he pointed it I heard a shot. I thought Elder fired it. I was not looking at the Mexicans when the shot was fired. At the time Elder drew his pistol, the Mexicans had their guns down. I never looked at them anymore until the gun fired, I was looking at Elder. At the first shot I turned and as I turned I heard another shot. I then ran toward the gate and as I got to the gate I turned my head and saw Elder falling and the two Mexicans was within some 6 feet of him. At the first shot, I noticed Newton Butler run, or move westward. Jack Bailey ran toward the gate. I passed in the gate just as Henry Pullin fell and just after Hiram Pullin had passed in. I stepped behind a live oak tree just inside the gate and to the right of the gate. Felix Burris passed in ahead of me and I saw him go behind the store. No one passed in the gate after I did except Jack Bailey. I was standing with my head at the tree when he passed in and I turned my back to it. As he ran by me I watched him and saw him turn to the right and go some 6 or 7 steps and fall. He fell with his feet toward the left and his head eastward. His feet pointed more to the store than to me. Bailey hollered: "Don't shoot me, don't shoot me." He said something else which I do not remember as he fell. I looked to see if anyone was shooting at him and no one was shooting at him that I could see. I could see no one in the yard at all. I saw, just outside of the fence and some 6 steps up the fence from where I was, the two Mexicans. They were looking over the fence where Bailey was. Juan Coy was close to the fence and Epitacio was a little back. They had their guns in their hands but did not have them in a shooting position. They were simply looking over the fence at Bailey. They were about the same distance from Bailey that I was. I know they neither shot nor made any attempt to shoot Bailey after Bailey fell. When Bailey was hollering "Don't shoot me" he was lying on his back. I did not see him looking at anyone. His face was turned up. I did not see Dan Butler in the yard and I know he was nowhere near Bailey at the time he was hollering. If he had been, I would have seen him. After the firing ceased the Mexicans walked over to where Elder fell and soon after left. I did not go to Daileyville to fight that day. I know of no agreement by anyone to fight that day. If I had thought to a fight I would not have gone there. I had not seen the Mexicans for several months before that day.I had not seen Coy since he killed the negro in Wilson County and had not seen Garcia since just after his case was dismissed in Floresville. | Coleman, Charles D. Muriel was raised in West Roxbury and attended Boston schools. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a Hostess at the former Banqueteer Restaurant in Chelmsford. | 1190 | NEWMAN, JOSEPH (1780?1831). Joseph Newman, member of the Old Three Hundred and early Wharton County and Austin County settler, was born in 1780 in South Carolina. In 1806 he was in Warren County, Ohio, where on June 12 he married Rachel Rose Rabb, daughter of William Rabb. In 1810 Newman and members of the Rabb family were living in Illinois Territory. During the War of 1812 he served at Fort Russell and served against Indians. In 1818 he moved to Jonesboro, Miller County, Arkansas Territory, now in eastern Oklahoma. He moved to Texas with the Rabb family in 1822. In June 1824 the colonists organized an expedition to pursue Tawakoni Indians who had stolen Newman's horses. As one of Stephen F. Austin's colonists, Newman received title to a league and a labor of land, now part of Wharton and Austin counties, on August 10, 1824. The census of March 1826 classified him as a farmer and stock raiser, aged between twenty-five and forty. His household at that time included his wife, three sons, four daughters, and two servants. In April 1826 he was again signing affidavits concerning Indian depredations. In January 1827 he joined other colonists in declaring loyalty to the Mexican government and protesting against the Fredonian Rebellion. Newman died at Egypt, Texas, on February 12, 1831. Roper, minister of the Church of Christ, officiating, with burial in Moody Cemetery. Pallbearers were Donald Allman, Delbert Pratt, W. S. Thompson, James Batey, J O Doshier, Reynolds Herrington, Cecil Guyton, Garland Guyton. Mrs. Nelson was married to Clyde Nelson on Feb. 9, 1918. To this union three daughters were born, Miss Ruby Nelson, Mrs. Marjorie Woodham, both of Moody, and Mrs. Kathryn Rutledge of Goldsmith; four granddaughers and one grandson. She was a member of the Church of Christ and she adopted Coy Roper as her son. (No legal adoption, Coy was minister at the church and she truely loved him as a son.) Sam graduated from Gardner High School in 1947 and went on to receive a B.S. in Journalism from Boston University in 1956. He worked for the Telegram & Gazette as a copy editor and reporter for 33 years, retiring in 1989. Following his retirement he worked as a standardized patient at UMass Medical School, Shrewsbury office. Sam enjoyed his time as an actor at Stageloft Repertory Theater in Sturbridge. He was an active member of St. Rose of Lima Parish and was a past Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus. Sam was a Civil War buff. Funeral services were held at the residence of his son, W. H. Jones of Waelder at 3 o'clock this afternoon, with interment in the Thompsonville cemetery. A large number of county officials were in attendance at the funeral service, out of respect for the deceased s son, W. H. Jones, who is one of the county's commissioners. Many other friends from over the county attended the last rights for the veteran citizen of the county. Services wee conducted by Rev.
